I am thinking of purchasing an 01' s4 quattro. I test drove it and right when I got out of the parking lot I got on it and it hit 4000 RPMs and bogged down and back up and down almost like it was losing boost or something. After a couple minutes of warming up it ran like a dream. It seems to do this everytime. Anyone have any idea of what this could be. Crack in the coolers causing the turbos to not build enough boost?? computer problem?? dirty fuel filter?? Someone told me it was a feature that prevented the driver to get in and start spoolin at high R's right off the bat. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

How about not getting into the throttle when it's cold?

Sounds like a boost leak, it can be anywhere.

 

Now thats a noob question! DV or diverter valves recirculate the charge of air back into the intake after you let go of the gas, same thing as a blow off valve but recirculated. If they are bad they will leak boost pretty badly which could be the reason the car seems to fall on its face when building up some boost.

doesn't limp mode start at lower rpm's than that? and if it's a leak it would do the same at around 2,000 rpm's as well, could be a DV too
