I have an 02 S4 with the factory Bose and want to hook up an amp and sub (the base on the factory 6 1/2's is weak). Been reading several posts but need more info on taping the power wire into the battery. Once I get it hooked in I've got good enough step by steps to run in back to the trunk.

Can someone provide some steps to get the power wire hooked into the battery? thanks

whatever amp/power kit you buy should have a piece for the battery terminal and the wire should slide right into it then be locked down by a worm screw. then just run it right off the battery terminal. or am i missing the real question?
If your looking for amp turn on then you can use any 12 volt source, preferably the ignition so when u turn the car off you dont need to manualt shut anyhting off.

 

Using the ignition makes sense. Not sure exactly what I'm going to buy yet but should be ready to install in about a week.

haha only use the ignition for amp turn on wire. the very small one that just sends the pulse signal to keep the amp on. The thicker gauge power wire you will have to run directly off the battery no other way around it.

I don't mean to thread jack but I am also getting ready to install a moderate sub and amp. If I cut the speaker wires from the rear speakers and run them to my amp will everything work ok. The only reason I am asking is becasue the bose system sometimes run different ohms then an aftermarket and i don't feel like blowing anything up.

 

yes i would not reccomend it, i would recommend tapping into the pre-amp wires that can be located at the amplifier. because likew you said the impediance(ohms) of the bose system.

 

Newb question here - are you talking about tapping into the pre-amp wire with a line level converter for power, versus running it from the battery? Also, what color would the power wire be?
