Default New Fuel economy standard will be 31.6 mpg

Hi...Just became an Audi owner (2008 s6)

How will this gas requirement affect high performance cars?

Sounds like it's only on new cars being built so we're ok. Good thing since I get about 14mpg and I imagine yours is the same or worse with a V10.

High performance cars will most likely be taxed..............higher. The fuel mileage requirement is "corporate average". All models combined must average out to 31.6. I think it's also determined by numbers. More small, efficient cars will help offset lesser numbers of "gas guzzlers". I see it as ridiculous that the government wants to accelerate these requirements. This puts tremendous pressure on the manufacturers. Why not allowfor more oil exploration and build some more refineries? Gas prices might fall as a result.

They just ahve to make a few hybrids and and eco cars that make 40-50 mpg, and the other one that get 10 mgp and we're good!

yeah as they said this is only on NEW cars nothing to do with OLD cars you can have your 68 mustang that gets 8 mpg and not get taxes at all. what will happen is when you get a new car like a vette that no way in heck will get 31 mpg. you get a tax for fuel when you buy the car like 2 grand or more to offset the price difference. and when you get your tag every year you will also pay more for your car lux tax and gas tax. they will not average out there fleet of cars you just pay more if you will burn more fuel.
