How does it usually work when breaking a lease to get into a more expensive car at the same dealer? I am still mulling the idea of getting an RS4 but my 36 month lease will only be 1 year old this August. I imagine I'm gonna take a big hit, but is this a dealer by dealer thing or is there some kind of general expectation I should be ready for?

 

Generally, the dealer doesn't hold the lease. They sold it to whoever you have your lease through. So with that in mind, the dealer itself ofen times has no control of you getting out of a lease. I would look into the sales contract you signed when you bought it. There will most certainly be something in there that says what the buyout on the lease is.
