Hi, im new to this forum and i had a question for you all. I currently own a 2001 s4 43k miles, silver with two tone black leather and white suede, fully loaded, chipped, I have the HID lights, and my car is stick. I live in chicago and because of the winters i picked the s4 over an 01 m3 or z06. However, i plan on going to school in arizona next fall and four wheel drive isnt that necessary over there so my choice has broadened. Im still considering getting a z06, I test drove an 02 m3 smg, but i liked the way my audi handled better. I also am considering a lightning, like a 2003 with 20k. I like the fact it has suede, and its domestic so parts are cheap and it can be made faster for alot cheaper. I really hate to sell my car, but if its for a better car i can deal with it. I hear mixed thoughts whenever i ask around, people tell me lightning or a z06 is a downgrade, and then some people say new car lower mileage is an upgrade. If i dont sell my car i'd like to get the k04 turbos, but 6 grand for turbos .. im not sure if its worth it. Anyways give me any advice you guys can, if you have any other car suggestions $25k-$50k im all ears. I dont like japanese cars, thats all =P

I don't think you're going to get a fair and unbiased set of recommendations from an Audi forum. We're all going to say stick with the S4 - I think.

You haven't really explained why you would want to sell your car. What's wrong with your car - in your mind?
The S4 is truly a great car. But, see, I'm biased!

 

Honestly i love my car, and the only other car i would want in chicago is a porsche C4S or a gt3, other then that im straight. Im moving to AZ however, four wheel drive isnt a must out there, and i was just thinking, my car is an 01 with 43k. I could get a newer car with lower miles. Im not sure if i really want to sell my s4, i mean its a gorgeous car and i love it. But since i test drove that lightning, damn that thing is FAST. My car runs high 12's mayble low 13's, but that lightning ... for a truck just felt so much more powerful. Anyways, sometimes i just get sick of driving stick i guess, 2 of my friends of lightnings and sometimes its fun to just dogwalk the pickup. I dont want to sell my car though and later regret it, anyways let me know if you think a lightning is a downgrade, or if its worth it and just a matter of preference. Thanks.

 

I think it's a matter of preference.
It will depend on your lifestyle and what you will change to your lifestyle while living in AZ.
I lived in the desert for 13 years - without an Audi - and I loved having my Jeep, but that's because my lifestyle demanded off-roading, etc. Now my lifestyle is different and I no longer live in the desert.

Flooding in the desert is best handled with trucks. That's why many folks out there have a truck as a second car.

 

I can tell you: Stick with the S4. I recently just sold my Cobra which has the same engine as the lightning (as i am sure you know). The Lightning may FEEL quicker, but u also have to remember, the lightning is geared MUCH differently than the s4. It's main power is all down low, for starting off the line. They run a mid 13 stock, but after that, lightning's just don't have much. If your car is running a high 12, and you love it, stay with it. The lightning just feels faster because its made to be that way, your car is meant to be smooth acceleration all the way through the powerband. I just drove an S4 the other day, and its much better ride (and with a chip) just as fast as my cobra was. Keep the S4, you won't regret it. Can't wait to get my S4 now =/

 

s4. id consider it a downgrade for sure if u went any other way (cept for the porsches obviously) the extra money u may be spending on getting a new truck or watever could be spent into making ur car better. upgrade the suspension and mod ur engine. the s is real nice, its comfortable as hell too if ur not that big. the audi has elegance, something i feel most car companys lack, from imports to domestics. i feel germans put alot more passion into their cars then anyone else...jus my thoughts tho...

 

Yea, i really do love the s4, especially my year. If the new s4's were still biturbo there would be no question of which car id buy. But a newer lightning with lower miles that is as quick, sounds nice. I have some major gripes with audi for taking away the turbos to save cost and maintenance.

 

yea for sure, but i guess everyone was just chipping the car, beating the turbos and puttin stock chip back in and say it was their fault

 

rs, you are absolutely right. And they realized people were buying s4's for 45-50k, dropping 6-8k and getting k04 upgrade and having an 11 sec car. So they said screw it, made s4 without turbos so people who want that speed gotta buy the rs4 instead of making there s4 one.

and another thing ... why the hell is the new rs4 still tuned down from the european model. Those things have more then 420hp and they are hatchbacks, audi america is treating us like children.

 

The new B6-7 S4 is actually faster than the B5, thats granted they are both stock. Although there probably is a lot more out there for the B5 to make it go much faster, than there is for the new V8.
