Default S4 B5 question

Hey guys,I was wondering if someone could give me a little info about removing and replacing my alternator.I know this is probably a total noob question but it seems extremely hard to get too.I have heard about putting the car in service mode but this looks like it will take hours and seems crazy for just an alternator. So any info would help alot cos my battery is dead and driving me nuts!

i have not done just an alternator in my car but from pulling mine to get the plugs off the back to pull the motor you are probably at least going to have to pull the front end to get to it, mainly because the motor sits so low so audi made the pan wide and the alternator sits right above it....

You need to pull the plastic bell pan off, pass wheel & wheel liner make it easier. you don't have to pull the front bumper off but it ins't hard to do
