s4 Problems and reliability
Hey guys i'm new here. I was doing some research about the 2.7tt s4 and i'm almost 100% sure that i'm going to sell my wrx and get one. With selling the wrx i could probably afford a 2000 s4 with like 70-80k miles. I've seen how hard it is to install a new timing belt and how costly that could be. I was just wondering how reliable are the cars, because if things are that hard to replace i might keep the wrx. I've looked around on the forums and besides the guy with the bad tranny; does a lot of stupid **** break that people dont post cause its not a big deal or is the car pretty reliable? Parts are expensive and german engineers did a good job making replacing parts on the car as difficult as possible.

Its not as reliable as the 1.8T or 2.8 but it should be alright if u take care of it. What year were u looking at. 2001.5 &^ are the best.

I am also looking at buying an S4 and would like to know why you think the 1.8t is more reliable. I was going to put the k04 turbos and a few other things from the RS4. Can you please give me input on an aftermarket aspect between the two. Which will hold a more reliable 400hp?
Well with k04's you have to plan on going full stage 3, cuz most of ur internal engine parts wont handle all that extra boost. Once you do all of that though, your engine will be more reliable just because the k04's wont go nearly as easily as your stok k03's. The 1.8t is more reliable most likely cuz its only a single turbo, so less parts are in danger of breaking (thats my first thought, dont know exactly, sry) But if you are looking ot put k04's in, go with the 2.7 engine, you engine itself with the other upgrades will be able to put up with all of the extra power, and plus a little more displacement and power.
l;ets put it this way a reliable 400 jp is not possible out or a 1.8T. And a s.7TT will do it no problem. Jay has one that he uses as a daily driver. He is a real estate agent so...
