Speed questions...
Alright here it goes, im sure im going to get flamed, but i dont care, that being said hopefully the flamers with not post, yes i relize speed is dangerous, and yes i did my searching... i could not find what i was looking for though...
That being said here are some of my questions... applying to a 2001.5 b5 s4
1. I got my car to 145 mph, but i thought the speed limiter was at 130? what does this mean? or is it at 145?
2. Is the rev limiter set to keep the engine from reving to high, or the transmission from spinning to fast?
3. What is the max speed in 6th gear that can be acheived, i have head it was 180 but im not sure?
4. Can anything be done to...
A. Remove the speed limiter?
B. Lower the final drive ratio of 6th gear?
Also any other information you think is usefull is great appreciated, thanks in advance

The stock speed limiter on the s4 is 144mph's according to Road and Track according to Audi it's 140 Mph's. I myself have a Apr computer which takes away all the stock restrictions. You can get your stock computer reflashed or chipped that'll add torque & Hp and take away limiter restrictions. Ive also never ran my car past 150 so I couldn't tell you what the max speed is but when i was going 150 I think I was at around 5300 rpm's give or take some. Each gear only has a maximum amount of speed it can achieve plus they're all short gearing anyway hope you can figure out whatyour lookin for.
The limiter is there for insurance & lawyer reasons. Any "chip" will remove it. There is nothing that will is going to break going top out, you will be limited on top end by your HP. Gearing is good for over 180mph, however, stock or slightly modded car do not have enough HP to push that high.
You can also change the speed limiter with a Vag-com.

Uh i believe the b5 s4 is electronicaly limited at 155 mph.... thats what iv allways heard. Thats also what it says on wikipedia (which i know isnt 100% trustwothy), and if you do a google search youll find plenty more support for that. In fact im almost positive MB, Audi, and BMW have all come to an agreement to limit their production cars to 155mph,250km/h. There are prolly some exceptions, maybe with AMG cars. I think almost every chip takes off the speed limiter and sometimes bumps up the rev limiter. Theres alot of videos on youtube and google video with people topping out their b5's. You can pretty much bury the needle, some people take allong a gps to get a gps confirmed speed. Iv seen into the low/mid 170's. Fastest iv done in my car is about 150 and thats where it starts to get really fast. To me acceleration is more fun than top speed.
Stasis does a close ratio transmisison rebuild that helps with acceleration. They also have a new torsen center differential that distributed torque more agressively. I like the idea of these and would really like to do them but theyre priced at almost $5000. EEK! maybe someday.

i believe verruct hit 190 on ze autobahn... As far as stock..i think it would do in the 150's and not much more...
but my assumption was also 155 was the limiter... and any chip will remove that.

Thanks for all the answer so fast guys... what kind of power can the transmission handle? Along with all the axels and drive shafts and everything? Basically what are the weak points? Yes obviously if your doing a 5k rpm luanch all the time something will break for sure, but what is going to be the first thing to break because of to much power?

No one really had problems until you get over 500whp.
