Default tiptronic vs 6 speed

so hows the automatic tiptronic onthe s4cars as opposed to the 6 speed? i mean of course i would prefer the 6 speed but my best option right now is an automatic. if i want to tune it is it even worth it to get it or should i wait it out fr a 6 speed. the thing is the guy only wants 8k for a 2000 s4 with 91k miles. im having it checked by a shop and if its clean then i really might buy it.

level10 or 2bennett can make a TIP transmission bulletproof for the right amount of money, and as we all know, TIPs don't miss gears, and can be programmed to shift faster than a human can.

If you like the car, and like you said, it's is super clean, then go for it, you can probably sell it later for what you are buying it for.

I love my TIP! I know that it can be a bit cumbersome at times letting the car do the downshiftingwhileapproachingturns and such butif you learn where the car likes ride in the RPM range to get peaktorque when exiting a turn, then you can control it in tiptronic mode and be just as quick as a manual trans.

If you are referring to drag racing then you will lose a bit on launch but the rolling shifts will be just as quick if not quicker.

My S4 is in the shop right now getting the torque converter replaced. If it wasn't being done for free, I'd have spent the money and had Level 10 rebuild it with about a 3200-3500 stall speed. That would have been fun. I guess I'll run the stock stall one for a while and down the road if I go stage 3 I'll do the valve body mods and the higher stall convertor.

I've driven a few rwd cars with higher stall convertors.... WOW. They launch like a scalded dog. Can only imagine what an S4 would launch like with the turbos spooled up and with awd traction.
