Default Transmission Grinding problem

Hi all,
I did a search on this, but nothing quite like the problem I have came up. I recently bought a 2004 S4 with 19000 miles on it. The problem I'm having is a grinding sound that come when I shift gears. I have noticed this shifting into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. However, the sound is very faint and the gear always engages properly. Each gear functions flawlessly. In addition, this sound comes only some of the time. Most shifts don't incur this grinding sound. Is this normal for this transmission, or do you think the transmission is damaged?

Thanks,
Johnny

Hi,
Thanks for the fast reply. The car is still under warranty, do you think they'd do it?

Thanks.

They should repair it under warranty, if they don't, then it'll eventually ruin the transmission and they will have to replace that...they replaced mine.

That's good to know. I think I'll keep using the car until it gets worse, and then take it in because right now, it's hardly an issue. Also, I'll tell them to take a look at it at the next service, but I doubt they'd find anything wrong without actually driving the car.
