Default transmission grinding

So I'm new to Audi's. I just bout a 2001 a4 quattro, its 5 speed manual. I was just driving and it seems as I don't have 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. I can find 2nd 3rd and 4th but i have to really slam it into the gear and all it does is grind, not engage. 5th and reverse are fine, and 1st gear engages but i have to rev it up to between 2 and 3 grand and it finally catches, and then takes a second or two to fully engage, kind of revs first. I can also push the clutch to the floor in first gear, then hit the gas and ill still be accelerating. Does this sound like my clutch?

Sounds like you have a problem releasing the clutch fully. Have you checked the fluid level in the reservoir for the clutch master and slave cylinders?

To the right of the battery as you look at it from the front of the car.

Then you could be looking at the slave or master cylinder failing, bad cultch release bearing, damged pressure plate or clutch disc. Also make sure the transmission is full of the proper gear oil.

try bleeding it first, since its easiest. after that next would be to do as z28pete said and check master and slave. Then if still bad your dropping the trans.

Just got done bleeding it. Still have the same problem. it now feels as if the whole tranny shifted to the right though. for example. First is where 3rd should be and 2nd is where 4th should be. 3rd 4th 5th & reverse are in the normal smopts though. Do you guys think a spring could have popped outta the clutch and got jammed between the clutch and flywheel?
