Upgradeing to a S4. which one?
very nice. I really want to drive one first. I have driven the B5 and loved it. the B7 is out of my price range unfotunatley, it would be nice if I could pull it off. is the relibility for the S4 that much worse than an A4, in terms of the B5 that is
Well, I have a V8. Advantages- newer, possibly under warranty, updated interior and safety, should be less maintenance due to less miles, no timing belt, less stress on the engine without turbos' heat, bigger brakes, and got to love that V8 sound! You would have to spend hundreds or more to get the B5 horsepower to the stock B6 level of 340, granted, you could take the turbos further, but you are taking out even more reliability and adding more maintenance costs. The only disadvantage I feel with the V8 would be initial cost(newer car), and the ability to mod to extreme levels as the turbos.
I've had a 2000, 2001, 2004, and...a 2004 AGAIN! My opinion is go for the 2005. They're great no matter what year they're from, but after modding both I've had more joy with the B6 style just due to how reliable they are. Only thing to watch out for is the sound of the B6-it's so intoxicating that you WILL run through more gas since you'll be hitting that pedal every 3 seconds just to hear the V8!
FYI Although 04 is great, get the 05 cause it's just as great as the 04, just newer/fewer miles, plus you won't have to worry about finding an 04 made BEFORE 10/03

S4B6Dave, you are right about the horsepower. But more horsepower doesn't necessarily mean faster car, but in most cases it does
. A V8 would be nice, but then Twin Turbo just sounds so cool. I'd go B5 or B7. I'm not so keen on the B6 styling. But everyone has their own taste.

Cool, it would be great to talk to more people that have the V8, since everyone here seems to have the turbos! As for the B7, I don't like the pedestrian bumper, I think the car looks unfinished with the cheap looking gray plastic. But, if someone offered to trade, I probably would because it's newer. You will LOVE the sound, very intoxicating! My car has: GIAC chip, intake, AWE exhaust, HSport sway bars, and lowering springs-all on it when I bought it! To make all of you enthusiasts drool....I just bought my 05, with just over 14k miles for LOW 30's!! Full records and everything, even the XM is still activated! I was told it was owned by a lockheed exec. The only thing I'm not sure that I like is the lowering springs, it might just be a bit too stiff, so if someone wants to swap for stock, I might consider it.

the key to the V8 is power and reliability. That is ultimatley what made up my mind, and the fact I dont have to worry about my timing belt snapping and making me rebuild my top is priceless
