Default went to change my brakes .....

so, my right front brakes were killing me with sound, and i figured I would change them today. So i went to napa and picked up the front sets for both sides *mights as well do both, and a c clamp cant find mine*. Once I got home I pull out the jack and it fails to lift the car at all, so i went to full car rage mode and threw it in front yard. Pulled out the really cool jack that came with audi, and jacked it up, forgeting to losen the nuts. no biggie i say i have a impact gun charge that sucker up with air and here we go ................ *are you f'ing kiding me not a movment. so i lower the car back down and hand losen them , then i lift the car back up and go to work. So i get the brake pads off with no trouble at all, first time that ever happened and i am thinking well things are looking up. I go to replace the pads and wont fit, at no way they are getting in there. I look at the box and it says they are for a audi s4 just 2002 *b6* and up. ok now let me jst say i was more then a little unhappy at this time. so i am cursing napa's good name and now even more pissed i have to put back on the load really cool brakes. so i look at the pads when i am putting them back on and see ........... and small piece of metal on the pad, take if off after some work. put the pads back on and that goes smooth at least, so does getting the car ready to drive. test drive the car and not a sound..... at least it made my mood better and i get 122 dollars back from napa. fun day.

Don't know about the S4 brakes, but alot of brakes use a wear indicator, ie a small metal tab that makes noise by rubbing on the disc when it's time to change the pads. Honestly, if you don't know enough to do both sides at the same time, you really shouldn't be doing this on your own.

what are other reasons that would cause the brakes to make that really cool squeaky noise? I just replaced my fronts with semi metalic pads i got from auto zone and they squeak? and there new? Anyone got any ideas?
