What is an oil catch-can exactly? And does my 2000 tip need one?

Default What is an oil catch-can exactly? And does my 2000 tip need one?
I've heard about them for many different cars. Can someone drop some knowledge if they pertain to my S4 at all?

If you have to ask yourself...hmm do I need an oil catch can? Then no you dont need one.
