Question Whatcha think bout this B5 S4?

Rebuilt title, looks straight though, I might call tomorrow for ***** and giggles to see if they have pictures of the accident and/or repair orders from the body shop that rebuilt it. If only the hood was replaced and nothing further back than that (radiator support etc) then it seems decent to me

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/2827857740.html

so i called the guy and he says fender was replaced, and the hood and bumper were repaired and painted... no airbags deployed and he insists no frame damage but i'll check it out further if i go look at it, it's a ways away from where i live.

he also said there is what he calls an "air leak" and it makes a hissing sound, i'm not sure what he means but i think i've seen something about hissing sounds from these cars on this forum...

here is a quote from fonzo i just copied

"i mentioned gasket because when i had first changed my aux. water pump i removed my throttle body to get to it. when i put everything back together i re-used my original gaskets on the throttle body. the car made a howling noise due to air leaking when i drove."

water pump and timing belt were just replaced, as well as valve cover gaskets, so maybe this is the "hissing" sound he is talking about?

link is dead for me too.

the whistle noise could also be from leaky vacuum hoses, boost hoses or even the spider hose. find out whats leaking before you purchase. what are the miles? original turbos?

94k miles and i'm pretty sure it's the original turbos, he says they're good but we all know how people can be, i posted another link in my last post hopefully that one works, do i need to link it differently than copy/paste?

guess i missed that second link...

94k isnt bad for mileage. thats where i'm at. car looks pretty clean. doesnt look like it has any aftermarket mods, which is a big plus. salvaged titles always scare me though.

i'm with ya, i need to go look at it and inspect for further damage or hidden damage from the accident, i really wish they would have had pictures of the accident or at least repair orders from the body shop that fixed it but they don't which seems sketchy to me.

:P

If the damage was as small as he said (fender, hood,) it would all be cosmetic and the car wouldnt have a salvage title in Wa.

Mine was hit on the passenger front wheel. Broke some suspension bits, replaced fender, door, and fixed the bumper. Car wasnt totalled. When deciding what a car is worth they dont go by KBB. They go by what the car is worth to sellers. That car would have had to have almost 6k in damage to recieve the salvage title (depending on when the accident occurred).

Thats my understanding of it at least. My car is still being fixed (small things keep cropping up) an our accident happened on the 9th of January.

Default Be careful

Chances are if it comes out of the salesmans mouth its a lie. Ive been a bodyshop manager for a few years and it takes quite a bit to total these cars. Salvaged cars are mostly auctioned to dealers and they dont know **** about the car when they buy it. Take someone who knows what ther looking at with you. Its very obvious what has been repaired to what hasnt. Remember to look at the bolts, bolts with paint chips have been turned ones with paint havent. Look for stickers on parts replacement parts come with stickers and bodymen are too lazy to take them off. (yes I know most parts have stickers but look for FRESH stickers) Easier to explain in person but hope this helps. Get low and look at the car in angles No cheap body repair is perfect look for waves in the panels too.

.
this is absolutely correct. stay away from salvaged cars. you have no idea how well or how bad the cas has been fixed. usually people do cheap fixes on salvages. and if you insist on buying this, ask yourself if you are willing to drive it until the wheels fall off. because selling an audi is hard already (ive tried) and selling an audi with a salvage title is not making the job any easier.

i talked to my insurance company a while back and they said they declare a car salvage if the car has more than 70% of damage than its current value. if they started declaring salvage for cars with 3k worth of damage they would be out of business.

that being said an s4 with that kind of miles goes for atleast 9k so there was quite of damage done to the car.

and the price for that car being salvaged is way too high. maybe 5k would be OK

good luck
