Default 2004 Audi S4 auto trans issues.

Okay so i bought a 04 s4 apox. 135k miles on it. its a auto trans and i have a few problems/questions. Not sure if i made this thread right but here is what they are

Off a cold start in 1-2nd gear it'll shift really hard and from 3rd-4th is where the really hard shift is. My rpm's will jump anywhere from a few hundred to maybe 1k rpms. It will jolt the car and then from 4th and up is alright. It will do this hard shifting until the cars temp gauge gets to normal temp and then will shift alright.

My second problem is when coming to a complete stop at a red light. I'll slowly break until a stop and right before it stops the whole car will jolt then stop. I'm not sure if this is a issue relating to the trans problem above or what. Ive taken it to the dealership i bought it from and they thought they fixed the problem and fixed a few other little things (cat,o2 sensor)

I have been searching around for possible solutions and what i have gathered so far is it could be low trans fluid? And i have seen some posts saying it could be a bad torque converter. I love cars but i have never worked on one myself i am very inexperienced when it comes to all that. Any help would be appreciated

sounds like your torque converter is going out. these are the exact same things that happened to me in my 01 s4.

Thanks for the reply but ah that doesn't sound cheap. What's that cost usually run?

and is this something that's serious to where it would be best to not drive it to cause more damage or what?

its definitely not cheap. i ended up swapping my entire transmission, the first time this happened. it ended up running around $1800. its a nightmare of a job. it could be more for you V8 guys.

you can drive on it, but it will eventually get to the point that you wont be able to engage your gears. it'll just rev really high and not go into gear, like your in neutral.

yeah prices are pretty high for auto transmissions on these cars. the v8's are actually a little more. if you can do the swap yourself you could save a lot of the cost.

here is a low mileage tranny for sale:

Yah i wouldnt even know where to begin doing the work myself. And i also don't know anyone that would know how to work on foreign cars let alone a normal car... wish i did.

But with that auto trans, with it being a b7 and my car a b6 would that affect anything?
