How hard: Swapping turbos?
Came across a B5 S4 with a 1 blown turbo, 1 good. Currently have a B6 and very DIY. Wondering how hard it would be to swap in a pair of direct-replacement turbo's? Maybe some upgraded ones but likely just straight swap.
Not looking for a DD just a project, thanks.

engine definitely has to be removed for the turbos to be swapped. it can be removed without the tranny, but its much harder that way. do both while youre in there and the timing belt, main seals, cam seals, clutch and starter/alternator.

i can say from VERY recent experience, that the engine will need to be removed or like i did, you can lower the subframe, but i wouldnt do it this way again!!! need to disconnect the shifter rod, strut towers, all hoses (dont forget the heater core hoses!!!!!), and lower the engine after unbolting the subframe. still leaves VERY little room to work on the turbos and isnt worth doing it that way. just pull the whole thing.
