B8/B8.5 Q5/A4 Support Subframe incorrectly installed?
I have noticed something very weird while taking up various tasks on the Q5.
While working under the car, I noticed this subframe that sits underneath where the transmission sits. It appears to be installed 'backwards'. Because the contact points are not flush with frame. I initially thought 'well, maybe it's weird german engineering', but felt I should probably check around before I dismiss this issue. I have tried to hunt down pictures to see how it is 'supposed' to be installed, but can't find anything.
Does anyone have a picture of what the underside of their car looks like? Just behind the front tires? Obviously images from someone with the missing rear splash cover, would be preferred
I have attached an image with the issue highlighted in red.

Found a diagram for this 'strut brace', and sure enough... my concerns appear valid.
Second question, would it be OK for me to just drop the brace, with the car on all 4 wheels, and just flip it around? Or, do I need to put the car on jack stands before flipping it? Do I run the risk of the sub-frame twisting or stretching once that brace is removed? I don't plan on going underneath the car, I should be able to get to all the bolts from the sides.

Just for anyone that has a A4 or Q5 with a creaking boat sound.
Check the cross frame stabilizer / strut brace (#6 in the illustration above). There is the chance that a less-than-stellar mechanic removed and reinstalled it without paying any attention to the actual design of the piece. The bolts should sit IN the groove, and the brace should be completely flush against the subframe.
I am just thankful that they did not torque it down to spec, that could have done some damage to the pinch bends on the metal.
