that's weird I got a legit vag-com cable from ross tech and it works great with no configuration. sometimes it's worth actually paying for software... you're wasting time on something that won't even be fully featured once you manage to get it running.
Q7 needs a "CAN" interface for vag-com, (proof in link) I'm pretty sure none of the ebay cables speak "CAN". There's probably an easier way to reset the service indicator, that's a good question for a Q7 forum

I use a non-Ross connector and 311 without a problem on my laptop. At first there were a few connection issues because I only had USB ports (noserial ports). I quickly learned that not allUSB- serial convertors work well and I have toconfigure it to the correct com port. But other than that it is great.
I think 409 (She's real fine -my 409!) is for USB only and am not sure if it works without the Ross tech adaptor/cable.

^$350 for the latest and greatest ($250 for the older cars) that will probably work on new models for the foresable future - just read the ross-tech website. If $350 sounds like a lot think of it as only 0.7% of what you paid for car i the first place.
Or you could start getting your oil changed at a place that can turn off the indicators for you.

Hey guy who couldn't get this to work, and anyone who searches for this in the future, the default com settings on those drivers above put your USB cable as COM5. You need to go into hardware settings and change it to COM1-4 (whatever's available) to use it with vagcom, and select the appropriate COM port on the VAGCOM interface.
