If you have a B5, the Key-USB is all you need.
Get the Ross-tech, all others are shareware versions and all the functions aren't available.

Get this: http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/m...ry_Code=VAGCOM
Software is downloaded here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/

Or find someone on here that can scan for you. Make sure you ask them what their favorite beer is.....

Yes it is. The real cable allows you to use all aspects of the software as the activation is built into the cable not the software.

I found mine on eBay for $150 a year or two ago. There is one there now, but it is serial not USB if that works with the laptop you have.

The Vag-Com will let you check and clear codes and change some internal settings in the car. Im still learning with mine...

You can log with Vag but the more variables you record the lower the sample rate is. APR's ECU explorer is a very popular program for more advanced logging and minor tuning. I dont have this one but have thought about buying it, i think it still used your existing Vag cable

The Explorer is also an awesome tool.
The faster sampling rates are useful for picking up minor glitches that the slower counterparts may not show you.

No mater whichever one you get, you won't be disappointed.
Just don't get the shareware Vag., it's garbage.

Plus once you get your car all squared away and running right, you can fine tune and do other fun stuff like trying to improve your FATS times.
