I used a helicoil on an old air-cooled VW engine before and it worked great, but that was a long time ago. The principle is fairly sound and I wouldn't expect any change in performance, unless your are seriously pushing power with your engine. And, you don't have to pull the head, it is nearly as easy as changing spark plugs. Good luck.

havn't seen you around in a long time! good to see you may have an easy fix for your car.... i know you were stressin' pretty bad over that.... in other news i will see you this weekend. i think i might drive up tonight in my rental car(my baby's in the shop).... so i've got a 2007 black A4 2.0t in my possesion.... damn thing has 7 gears! haha.. on the freeway doing 80 mph (in 7th gear) i'm only at 2k rpm....lol! funny huh?
