Have I bought tires that won't fit?? B5 A4
Hi guys,
I have a 1999 pre-facelift a4 1.8tq. I bought 225/50/16 conti DW and 205/65/15 Altimax arctic based on a few calculations -running on 16x7 & 15x7 stockers.
Now that they got delivered, I happened to put my hand between the wheel well and the tire up top, front and back, and there is hardly room for anything bigger! Less than an inch for sure -car is on stock suspension. Stock tires right now are 205/55/16.
Even though the contis are the same rolling diameter but obviously wider and the generals are half an inch taller but narrower, I'm worried both set of tires I have bought won't fit! :-(
To worsen my problem, I have also bought the vogtland coilovers and although i plan on keeping the ride height as high as possible with them, the least amount of drop they will create is 1.5inches.
On the other hand, there's guys running 18x8 wheels just fine on these b5s with 225/xx/18 tires and lowered cars. Help me out please:-( And this is my first post out of worry so go easy on me.

I think the 15s will be fine since the equivalent 15" tire to your stockers is a 195/65-15. Going 205/65 should fit. On the 16s, you might clear but if so, barely. You may need a 5mm spacer to clear the uprights.
Why did you buy those sizes in the first place?

Are you running stock wheels or wheels with the same width and offset as stock? Did you buy different (tread) design tire for the front and rear of the car?

If you bought the tires from a reputable source like Discount Tire or Tire Rack they should be able to tell you what size(s) are proper for the year, make and model car.
