Default Rear tires scalloping / warping on the inside HELP!

Hello my 2003 A6 has been making a howling noise at speeds of 10-20 mph. I thought it was the wheel bearings but they are pretty tight. Today I decided to take off the rear tires and check them and when I run my hand across the inside rea tires, they feel uneven or wavy. The rest of the tire feels fine. What can I do about the tires? What causes the tires to do that? Anyone who can help I would appreciate!

The tires wear like that if the alignment is off. Cupping, chopping, etc is caused by the toe being out of whack. If the inside is chopped I'd suspect it's toed out. Please tell me you had a 4 wheel alignment done when the tires were put on! If the dealer or tire store didn't at least recommend it, shame on them. If not, get it done soon as you can. Your tires will thank you. They should also be rotated front to rear every 10,000 miles or so.

Oh yeah, there are some tires that are more suseptible to chopping. Cooper Zeon and Fusion brand are two that come to mind.
