I had Kuhmo on my OEM rims and they handled really well on snow and ice. Got new rims and have the same size Falkens as you described above on mine and i like them. Got them for 130 a piece installed.

i just got a pair a nexen n7000 for 110 installed, they are freaking great. my car is now quiet as hell. i'm running bridgestone re050 in the front. in your choices, i'd run the khumo.

I wouldn't get Continental, but that's just my opinion.

i had falken 452's and went with Nitto invo and the invos handle way better in wet or dry conditions then the falken's 452's.

my size of tire are your same size

out of the 3 you have listed id go with the kumho

alright. another thing, it says the recomended tire for the wheel is 225/40. do i have to use that? im worried about it runnimg or not fitting. these are 18s. i was just looking and got a little scepticle. im running 225/50 on my 16s and there is like maybe 2 inches between the tire and the wheel well

not too sure on the size, but as for the tires, i would personally go with kumho ecsta spt's instead of asx's, that is if this is summer setup. i personally bought new tires a few months ago, was gonna get the spt's, but decided to go with nexen n3000. kinda wish i would have gotten spt's now.

Default Not Kumho

Thought I would bump this and give bad report on the Kumho ASX Ecsta.
Mine have barely 22000 with rotations and balancing and the tread isn't holding up. VW place today said I would need new ones for winter but i don't drive it on snow so I will wait.

Also I have a knot in sidewall of one tire too. Not sure how that will hold up in short term.

On Tirerack I noticed a few bad reviews with similar reports for early tread wear.
Also note they only have 30k warranties where Dunlops have like 6 year 60k.

Don't think I will do these again.

I had Falken Ziex 512 tires last year and they sucked. Louder than hell (sounded like a WWII bomber and drowned out my bad wheel bearing) and the treadlife was awful. I have Michelin Pilot Sports now and love them. I've had a lot of different tires through the years and my feelings on a few of them are:

Pirelli PZero - flat-out incredible in the dry, scary in the wet, low tread life
ContiSportContact - hands down the most badass tires I ever had. Crazy dry grip, good in the wet, pretty quiet, good life
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 - very close to the Conti, a little more sidewalk flex, slightly less grip at the limit, but way less money
Pilot Sport - great wet and dry grip, a little louder than Kumho but not near the Falken's noise, wear is pretty good

As for the size, 225-40-18 is optimal for you because it is very very close to the OEM tire's rolling diameter. Keeping it close means your speedometer and odometer readings are very accurate.
