Default A4 Stuck in 1st gear. Help

I recently purchased a used 2007 Audi A4 (automatic transmission) and it has approx 50000 miles. For the past few months, everything has been great with the car, but recently, I came to a stop, then when I went to accelerate, the car would not get out of 1st gear. The engine would just rev. If I switched to the manual option, I can switch gears fine there. However, I never drive in manual, so this is not an option for me.

I have not received any warnings prior, except that my oil is low, which I was getting changed this week anyway.

Also, my car knowledge is very limited, so any DIY troubleshooting is out of the question for me. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Clint

In case anyone else has the same problem, I just got the car fixed. Apparently, the problem was as simple as getting a new brake light switch.

How in the world did getting a new brake light switch fix your "stuck in 1st gear" problem? I don't doubt your claims, but I'm having a similar problem with my daughter's '01 A4 qt Automatic ..... unfortunately, the brake lights are fine.
