I have a 2002 A6 Quattro 3; 79,000 miles. Can someone please tell me where the catalytic converter is located? I need a new one and I'm getting a myriad of prices and answers.

 

They are located under the driver & passenger seats- yes, you have two- make sure they gone (have a rep shop check them out) as I belive the govn't mandate warranty is 80k miles- so you may be eligable for free ones- check your owners manual.

 

BTW, these come in direct fit only- and only buy genuine Audi cats (approx ~$1,000 parts only) as you will be replacing aftermarkets around 30k miles-

 

Not totally correct. Magnaflow, though may not be bolt on, meets California and Canada emissions for Audi's.

Speaking from a guy who's had emissions tests done.

 

Dealer only on the cats & replace both o/2 sensors! Also there was a software update on the ECM to make the limits on catalytic converters less sensitive.

 

I'm told you can pass smog by going with an APR software program that bypasses the converter somehow. The price of the software is half the cost of one catalytic converter.

APR has a $599 software upgrade with an optional switch to toggle between stock, pump gas, race fuel, and valet modes. You should expect over 245whp on 91-octane with 292 lb/ft, or 255whp with 306 lb/ft on 93 at 1bar (14.7psi) boost.
