I have a 1997 Cabriolet with the 2.8 V6 12V, the only issue ive had with the engine is a ticking noise coming from the valve covers, i took it to Strong Audi in Salt Lake City and they diagnosed a bad hydrolic lifter, (not holding pressure) now im not one to doubt a certified mechanic, but im sure there are ways to revitalize a bad hydrolic lifter... any ideas?

 

just drive it .. try a heavier oil .. unless the noise really aggrivates you .. does it sill do it even after warm up ?
