Unhappy 01 Allroad: Need new transmission?

Hi,

i was just informed by my mechanic that i need a new transmission for my 01 allroad. i had just noticed that i couldn't reverse up a hill recently, but it still goes ok on flat land although i hadn't wanted to push it. The estimated cost is $6000. Does anyone know if it's possible to fix parts of the bad transmission or does the entire thing have to be replaced?

Also, i was told i need a new cam shaft extrusion seal at $950, and a new interior rear view mirror at $320. Does anyone have a sense as to whether these costs are more or less correct?

I'm pretty distraut about this all as this would surpass what i had paid for the car itself. Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

k.

Check the A6 forum on the transmission issue. I researched this extensively before buying my allroad. There is sometimes a sensor that goes bad... often mistaken as a blown transmission. I'll check to see if I can find the thread..

Edit: Ahh here it is. https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...t=transmission
