I decided to change my fluid and filter this morning and it didn't go as well as I had hoped. The problem is I drained about 5 to 5.5 quarts but can only get about 3.5 back in without it spilling out. I had it hooked up to the VAG and I was within the temp ranges when I drained and tried to refill. I took it for a short easy drive and it is not shifting as it should. Am I missing anything? Can anyone give me any tips? The car is an 01 with 87K.

keep trying to get more fluid back in, it should drip out when running at temperature
