a question from new allroad owner
hi all,
i just bought a new 4.2 with 45,000 miles. it has been running great except for a slight problem with a tire due to all the potholes where I live. I've been trying to find the psi recommendations-gas tank, door frames-all the places you'd expect, but can't find the recommended one. Does anyone have an idea what it should be?
Thanks in advance for your help!

i ran the castrol full synthetic 0w-30 European blend my 2.7T, and personally, i wouldnt recommend it to anyone with the 2.7T, the 4.2 being naturally aspirated, different story.
The owners manual recommends to run a 0 weight in the allroad, but for me, it will never get cold enough to call for a 0 weight, plus, being thinner, i burnt out with constant highway speed heat, my oil min light came on one day on the freeway, and i stopped to check the dipstick, bare, scary as hell. i called the dealership to see what their recommendations were and they recommended what they put in all their cars: Castrol Syntec 5w30
the biggest differences between the european blend and usdm, is usdm, 0w30 or 5w30 is not ACEA A2/A3, only ACEA A1 although they will meet API service SJ (doesnt always specify on the bottle, but i checked for example mobil one's website, and although their 5w30 only shows API service SM i think, the website says it does meet API service SJ as well)
here is a good article i found on 5w30 oil's.

P.S... EmBomb: in relation to the psi question you asked, does your's have TPMS?

Hey Thanks McTavish. That's good to know, Yep I have a TPMS. I'm setting my tire pressure at 43 for each tire. The roads are so bad out here-in The Northeast-that the car just performs better I feel. What do you have yours set at? Thanks again for your reply.

Hey not a problem man, i love these forums, so nice to just pop on here, ask a Q, and get multiple opinions.
I run mine at 40 front, 42 rear. i live in an area as well that has some pretty crappy roads, lots of divets and pot holes as well, the pressure i run seems to be just fine. 43 might be ok in the rear, but i dont know about the front, you can try it and see how you like it, it will reduce the roll of the sidewalls and make it feel like the car will handle a little better, but anytime you inflate a tire to 5-6 lbs over the recommendation, it increases the chances for that tire to become damaged. (haha, i work in a tire shop when im home in the summers, so thats where i learned all this at
)

P.S. one other thing i just remembered. sometimes when a vehicle has TPMS the tires sensors will be set at what the manafacture recommends for air pressure, for example, when we get a rig in that has TPMS, and has different PSI for the front and rear, we have to reset each sensor to comply with the recommended PSI for that part of the vehicle. i would check your owners manual to see, i dont have it on me '01 so im not sure how audi's are configured.
