1998 Audi A3 transmission problem
Good day gents (& ladies)
I have a 1998 Audi A3 automatic (non turbo) with 106 000km. I obtained her about 6 months ago and am very happy with the car. I must say that she feels kinda lazy on 102 000km but figured that a service would fix the problem. Look at the service history (which is to die for) and saw she was serviced on 96 000km by Ebbet Prestige (Audi agent). Figured it was because it was an automatic but that is not my main concern right now.
About 2 weeks ago the problem started. For some reason, after a few km when it has warmed up, the car does not want to change gears as frequently as normal. It goes higher in revs before changing. Where normaly it would change at between 2500 and 3500 rev (depending on how i drive) it now goes up to 5000 - 5500 before changing. Especially 1,2 and frequently 3rd. It almost feels like it thinks it is in "sport mode" and delay's gear changing. When she eventually decides to change it is smooth with no jerking or funny stuff. So mechanically there is nothing wrong with the transmission (I think). When she is cold she runs like a dream. It is especially bad when I slow right down at a junking and go again whithout coming to a complete stop.
What I have done so far to try and rectify the problem.
*Changed transmission oil - problem not solved
*Audi dealer tells me to unplug the 'air intake sensor' while the problem is there. Did that, same problem, not better nor worse. He tells me that it is not the sensor then ?????? I need to bring it in for them to check. (yea right, as if I am a millionare)
*Took it for a diagnostic check and had 2 errors:
Enjin temperature controll sensor & Intake airflow sensors (might be because i unplugged it while the it was running)
Cleared the errors but still same problem.
There are no error lights coming up on the dash either.
Can anybody please shed some light on the issue.
your help will be greatly appreciated
