YMMV, so why bother right?
If numerous people experience costly defects, hey YMMV so it's all good!
I'm not specifically talking about this engine failure issue, but I hope you see my point.

Nope, I don't see your point as you didn't see mine, so the point you're trying to make now has zero relation to what I said.
You said previously, that one person's experience gave you perspective across different brands comparing reliability... My point was that is an inaccurate assumption, all it did was give you perspective on ONE person's experience. That doesn't mean throw it out and ignore it, it means if you really want "perspective" on reliability across brands you need more than one person's opinion and you need many more data points.
You even related this reliability thing to the current report going around with Toyota on top. The problem with that is that those things change every year... It wasn't long ago that Toyota and Honda were having some of the biggest recalls in motor vehicle history, but they're now on top.
So again... YMMV.
