Default A3 and CHAINS...

In considering an A3, it will have to face some 1400 mile round trips through 4 major mountain passes.

Three of these passes demand vehicles have chains during snowy days. No exceptions. A trip during the winter could be a problem.

What kind of chains or cable chains work on the A3 without damaging the wheel wells?

Simple cables that is sized for you tires and outer tension-holder should be okay. I did have a problem with the rubber part of the cable rubbing the rim, which caused me to do rim cleaning. This is assuming that you don't lower you car.

You need to check to make sure!

I had to sign a form when I bought the car to NOT ever put chains on the vehicle. I don't know if that had to do with the Pirelli PZeros, the Sports Suspension, Rims, or Vehicle. So, definitely check that out prior to purchasing. It may require you to buy steelies and all-season tires prior to the trip.

Good luck,

Chef
