I've read somewhere that the A3 (along with TT and others) are getting an AUX input on the radio in week 43 of 2008 production. Can anyone confirm this?

 

Dont most head units these days have AUX inputs? I'd be surprised if they didnt have one already

 

But then Audi wouldn't be able to charge you out the nose for their shoddy iPod kit!

In all seriousness though, I've never heard of any A3s having an aux input. Doesn't mean it's not possible though.

 

currently they don't have one. Even if VWs do....

 

I must be the only person who likes the Audi Ipod Kit =x

 

its expensive and I think it is wrong to force the kit as the only option. They should offer the aux in and a very good ipod kit a option (like Volvo...)

 

It did not happen at week 43. I have an '08 A3 made during week 45 and no Aux port. Someone mentioned in the forum that the Aux port may be cut in during week 48 yet this has not been confirmed. Also, I went to the San Francisco Auto show at Moscone Center during Thanksgiving weekend and the Audi marketing folks working the booth did not know of an Aux port coming on the A3. Good luck.

 

I really wish I knew who to ask for reliable information about this since I am ordering my A3 soon and don't want to order the ipod kit if I don't have to...

Can the ipod kit be installed after by dealer?

 

it will prob be 2010 before Audi finally adds an AUX and catches on like everyone else...

Not sure if it can be installed after, but beware, they will prob charge you twice as much

 

The iPod kit can be installed after purchase at the dealer, but like redsox said they are going to charge you a lot for labor and it is a really easy install. Do some reading on the forum, you can probably install the kit yourself -- it's not hard at all. Also there are several aftermarket iPod kits that are just as good or better than the Audi kit.

As far as reliable info on the aux jack being added, try calling/emailing Audi of America. A few people here have called with specific questions and it seems that they are generally pretty helpful.
