Similar experience here - since new, my wife's A3 has consistently needed a quart right around the mid-point between the 10k-interval oil changes. All Audi mechanics I've talked to claim that oil loss up to a quart per thousand miles is normal and manageable. I think that's too wide a margin for a brand-new car, but apparently I'm wrong-headed.

My wife drives like I do, which means the tach needle sees the far side of the rev range frequently,which means we ride around with a spare quart of oil in the trunk.

I say bunk to the drive slow and not accelerate hard. Turbo engines should be driven like you stole the car. After warmed up, run it through the revs regularly and the turbo and engine will continue to run smoothly. I have the PVC bypass and I go through about a quart between oil changes, which is very good. My car now has nearly 70k miles and not a problem. Also, my car is significantly modified, and has been for most of its life. Buy a quart of Mobil 1 0w40 and keep it in the boot with a towel. Check your oil every couple fill ups, and show your car the love it deserves!

I used to burn about 1 quart in half way between oil changes, but something seems to have changed lately. Warning light came on after about 3500 miles after the oil change and I topped off with 1 quart. Then today, the light came on again after only 40 days or so. (i'm gueesing about 1600 miles later). Anyone else have something like this happen?

I was told AFTER I bought my car that oil consumption with the 2.0 engines is common. Also turbo cars do supposedly burn more oil than NA cars.

I was told the car's oil was changed right before I bought it, about 3000 miles ago(car has about 27,000 miles). I took a trip last week and about 2 hours in the oil light came on. I finished the trip knowing that it's a safety device and the car has plenty of oil left in it.

Sure enough, I got where I was going and checked it, turned out the oil was barely visible on the dipstick. I put a quart in and it was at the top again. So the volume between full and no oil on the stick is 1 quart.

I'm a little miffed that the car burns so much, it's embarassing to get on it and watch money go out the tailpipes in gas and oil. lol But oh well, it's normal. If it consumes more than 1 quart in 3,000 miles, then I'm taking it in.

Totally agree OIL consumption seems high. Next check-up I will ask the dealer.

07 A3 w/ all the regular service dealer intervals done

I've had to put in a qt at:
35k
37k
42k
again last night, need to check

definitely increasing too much, mild weather here in socal, I don't drive it too hard, at least by my standards!

Sounds about right for me too. Dealer will just say it's completely normal and these 2.0 engines love oil.
