Default A3 vs Cadillac XLR V-series

so after a long day at work in La Jolla, CA, i started driving home. came up to a red light, there were 3 cars in front of me, on the right of me (one car up and over) was a 07 Cadillac XLR V-Series (440hp/414lbs torque, 0-60 supposedly under 5 seconds) with NO lic plate yet, must be a new car for him......... i thought to myself, i would love to run against this car, but too bad i'm not at the line with him. the light turns Green, traffic start flowing towards the fwy, a few gaps between all the cars open, i start hearing the exhaust from the Caddy and that thing is LOUD. as we hit 55mph, gaps are big enough to weave through traffic, but i don't instigate, but next thing i hear, VRROOOOOOOOOOOM, the Caddy punches on the gas to pass the cars, as soon as i hear him gas up, i punch it on 3rd gear tailing right behind the Caddy, we both pass all the cars and open rd ahead of us, the Caddy changes gears and steps on the gas, i pull to the next lane, change to 4th gear, by the time i hit 85mph, i start to pass him......QUICK!!!!!, i still hear his exhaust punching hard, i pull away at 100mph, looked in the rear mirror and the Caddy slowed down, got on the fwy, cruised at 70mph, the caddy slowly passes me at 85 mph, i get on his tail, but he didn't seem like he wanted to go at it again.

so i'm thinking, he's got 200hp and 200lbs of torque over me, and i STILL passed him? that quick? that guy is probably considering to returning the $90,000 Caddy for an Audi now.

so that was my excitement for today......... any new stories from you A3's?

You're lucky he didn't know how to drive. On the way to the last GTG I played with a Mercedes CLS 550, and a XLR and both had me at WOT. Weaving in and out of traffic was a little easier for me, but they definitely have more ponies. Can't drag race these cars and expect to win.

Now, having said that, and me being the one to race Porsche 4S's, I did have a good run with a new Honda two nights ago. I was also heading home from work and there was a new Accord V6 with an aftermarket dual exhaust. Nice sounding exhaust note. I followed him closely for a bit than we came to a stop light. The light turned and he hit it hard, me too. I was up next to him and hanging there with a grin on my face until we reached 105mph and I saw a red light up ahead. I let him keep speeding up and he hit the brakes really hard and swerved to the left turn lane not to hit anybody. It looked a lot like you at the end of our first canyon run. LOL I don't think he was too happy about me being next to him since he was trying with all of his might to beat me. Maybe I should have hung with him another 100 feet and pushed him over the edge? I guess that I was feeling like a nice guy that night. Too tired from work maybe?

Cheers!

I've raced a Jaguar XKR. As I was leaving my office park I came to a light to stop right next to a XKR convertible. I popped it in S just in case. Once the light turned green we babied it to 10mph. He hit the gas and so did I. He started off 1.5 car lengths ahead since he hit the gas first, but once the turbo spooled and the shifts went though I was gaining fast. Seeing me gain, he then cut me off even though his lane was clear.

At a stop somewhat semi [:@] at his cheap tricks I decided to fight another day. I continued home and so did he. I now patiently wait for the next encounter

He obviously didn't know how to drive that thing. No offense to your ride, I'm sure it's damn fast but the V series caddies are extremely fast. I know someone with a V series CTS and it is by far one of the fastest cars I have even been in.

I'm pretty sure they do. Here is a clip of one in auto... Notice that it smokes the S4... Even through the corners. I think they are frickin' awesome and I don't know what the hell he is talking about when he says they seem cheap. Oh well, every man to his own opinion...

CTS V = Very Fast!
