I have to agree with a lot of JohnS1's points about the A3.Which led me to my personal decision on my A3 purchase. Plus, a direct comparison to an A4 is right. With me going from a 540i - which had a decent capacity trunk - but, for those of you that have tried to put large bulky items into it. It does not work. Thus my frustrations with a trunk. And when it became time to put that car to pasture - I was totally focused on a wagon/hatchback/sportback vehicle. I wanted the gas mileage because of it being my everyday car to and from work. A hybrid was out of the question, since I do mostly open highway driving and the benefits of a hybrid on open highway were nullified. Plus the performance sucked. (A friend of ours has a Prius Hybrid - which they paid premium markups on. And was likewise shocked when they found out that the A3 was not very much more than the Hybrid they have.
But back to the A4 comparison, when you compare pricing with the A4 sedan- it's not far off. But, factor in the A4 Avant pricing and there's a big difference. And the same goes for the 325i/330i wagons. Yes - I also considered the Impreza's and Mazda 3/6 wagons - but, the Audi interior is what completely won me over. Gas mileage was decent too.
The bottom line is - I'm going to be spending a lot of time looking at the interior when I'm driving and that is where I definitely did not want to compromise.
- Just my take.

The "Build your Audi A3" now has been modified to show the 2008 changes. The technology package has pretty much been just renamed Bi-xenon headlights. Inventory of options is pretty much the same: Adaptive light system, Auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, Bi-xenon adaptive headlights with automatic self-leveling, Heat-insulating glass windshield with tinted sun band, Phone preparation with Bluetooth® interface for $1500. They sell just the Bluetooth prep for $435. I do not see power seats available for 2.0T S-line!

L7... we are pretty much coming off the same boat. I am coming from a BMW 530i and I was also looking at the BMW 3's and Mazda Speed3 but the Audi drive, intererior and exterior won me over

Speaking of mpg and gas taxes... Freakin 91 octane is $3.70 right now in Orange County. Why dont we hear people complaining about the price of gas anymore? The Bush administration has finally gotten the American people "used" to high gas prices. We got worked and we took it laying down.[sm=shootshoot.gif]
