Buying a A3 Quattro TDI 2.0?
Hi
Im new to this forum and i have a small question.
Im considering buying a new A3 Quattro TDI 2.0 .
However when i wanted to test drive one they only had a used one from 2008, I didnt like the ride especially.
Not much happened in the beginning when you stepped on the gas and when the turbo kicked in it did it hard..... After a while it got REAL uncomfortable and pushed me to almost car sickness.
Is it supposed to do that?? I've been driving a A4 Quattro on occasions and it didnt do that, we also have several WV TDI at work and they are significantly smoother.....
Grateful for any response.
Peter

There are several problems with your description:
1. There were no A3 TDI's in 2008. That engine option only appeared in 2009 (at least in US market).
2. There are no A3 TDI Quattros. All A3 TDI's are FWD only.
Regarding the response you describe - although the DSG transmission can engage abruptly (there is an improvement available), it sounds like something isn't right with that car/transmission. The A3 DSG automatic (dual clutches) is quite different from the A4 Tiptronic, which is a conventional torque converter-type auto. Also, the turbo in the A3 doesn't "kick in" abruptly like big turbos of old.

Hi
Hi thx for your answer.
We do have 2008 A3 SP TDI 2.0 Quattros in Europe, not sure about the states im afraid.
I'll talk to the dealer and see if it can be the gearbox or something, in my mind it shouldnt "kick" like a Turbo from the 80's???
If I dont get this sorted out I might go for a petrol Quattro instead..
Thanks for you response.
