My BMW is red also, IIRC BMW has been known for their red night display for years. Most aircraft are in reddish hues also.
And the A3 has way more lit buttons than my E46, tho ambient lighting is about the same in both cars.
Red lighting to me looks dark, yet I can still see what/where the ***** and buttons are without shocking my eyes.
