Hi, ive just purchased an a3 1.8 T 1999 and was wondering if its normal for the back illumination on the dash to permanently stay on? mine does, and only goes off when i remove the key from ignition?

Is this a common problem?

I just got an A3 3.2 and mine is also always on unless I turn it off with the control on the left of the steering wheel.

 

It will turn off if you drive without lights after dark, just to remind you that you are a moron for driving like that. At least in the newer A3's.
