Fitting a Tow bar?

Default Fitting a Tow bar?
If i fit a towbar to my 99 A3 do i have to cut a piece out of the bumper to do so?

if anyone has any info on installing a tow bar, please let me know. i assume the A3 manual trans can be flat towed. right?
