I’m looking for some information on what possible mistakes might have been made by the dealership tech who did the 115k service on my wife’s excellent running, one owner, regularly serviced 2010 A3 QUATTRO.
We brought the car down to Charleston for service after headlight range, abs, traction control warning on the dash.
The technician replaced the driver side speed wheel sensors, front and back.
Heres where I made my mistake. The service girl up-sold me on doing the 115k service early (the car had 106k) which includes changing the transmission fluid as well as the rear differential fluid, along with air filter, pollen filter, plugs, etc.
When I picked the car up it’s engine didn’t look like it had been touched— same dust and dirt as when I brought it in. The car had been sitting with very little use for a couple months so it was dirty.
Anyway, at some point during the ride home and then afterwords, both my wife and I heard a whining noise from the rear seat area. The noise was not constant, it seemed to come and go, and since we had recently put new tires on, the dealership said it was probably just tire noise.
Cut to 3 weeks ago (3 months after service) with barely 2000 miles later and our previously excellent running well maintained 1 owner A3 has a catastrophic differential blowout.
I had it towed to the Wilmington dealership and they’ve confirmed that the fluid level appears to be correct, but the rear differential is toast. Metal shavings. Also a possible locked caliper rear driver side and possible wheel bearing passenger rear.
While driving I heard the whining noise start and suddenly BOOM, like I had a blowout, or dropped my transmission..
Cape Fear told me that there is an Audi 12 month warranty on service or repairs, but the service manager at McDaniels in Charleston told me that because we brought it to Wilmington it’s now been “tampered” with(?) and blah blah blah.
So I’m looking for any advice on what recourse we have if any to have them pay for a repair, and more importantly what might have led to the failure besides coincidental timing.
thanks
