My car got broken into and need to know something~
after me and my girl friend took our puppy to his class on 6th street in san francisco which was from 7:30~8:30pm. Not my friend time there but...whatever it's kinda a ghetto area. It's right off the high away so heavy traffic and cops go around alot too. Somehow this crack head managed to break into my car by smashing my passenger window and took my 150$ worth cheap gps crap and took off. I was wondering how much would it take for me to replace my windows+clean those glasses up. My deductable is $500 so i was hoping my insurance will pay it. If it's under $500 that's money out of my pocket...
My car don't feel new anymore /cry i only had it for 2months now and it only has 3500miles on it.

Either way you'll end up paying. if it's over $500 you still have to pay the deductable.
You can clean the glass up at a car wash with the industrial vacuum for 50 cents. The window will be slightly more than that. You can try a local junkyard or price one out from the dealer. If you can replace it yourself, that will save some cash, otherwise use an independant shop.

Had the same thing happen to another car of mine. I vacuumed up the glass as best as I could and then priced out a new window. Its cheaper to pay out of pocket because your not going to pay more then $300 for a new window. Oh and the installer vacuumed up the rest of the broken glass for me.

Sorry to hear about your break-in. My wife rented a Dodge Charger in Fl. and a had someone break out the rear window to steal her purse as she and her sister were visiting their Grandparents grave site. The total bill from the rental car co. was $200.00. Our comprehensive insurance paid $100 and we paid the other $100 (so that dollar amount may be more in line to what you're facing). That brings me to my point. I'm surprised you have a $500 deductible on comprehensive insurance (the coverage for vandalism, cracked windshields, etc.). I'm in NC and that part of my policy is only a few dollars per year so having a high deductible doesn't make sense. Now I do carry a $500 deduct on collision, but that's where the big money is and where one can save on his insurance policy.

i know the area, bro, and i feel for you. i've had two friends that have had their cars broken into around there. anyway, i know you don't want to be preached to right now, but you should never leave anything in the car that might tempt thieves. even a jacket or a case of CDs is temptation for a grab and run.

got my window fixed at a good local shop oem window, took 1 day to order part and got my car today before the storm hit. total cost = 235$ and i'm really happy with the job they did.
