Default Purchasing Advice

Hullo, all.

This week I geared up to purchase my new and beautiful '07 A3 (S-Line, Manual, Open Sky, Cold, Ocean Blue). Although none of the dealers in my state (MD) had what I was looking for, the local dealer agreed on invoice +$500 on one from a dealer in NC. Unfortunately, the car sold while I was shopping the deal and there aren't any left on the east coast. After reading the changes for '08 -- especially about the change in wheels for the S-Line -- I'm sure the '07 is what I want.

My question is this... Is there a database/clearinghouse I can look at to see where any available '07 A3s may be lurking? Or do I just need to start calling dealers around the country?

Thanks for such a great message board... I was well prepared for the negotiations mostly through ya'lls knowledge.

You can try doing a dealer search on the Audi website- from there link to the dealer's site and most of them have "new inventory" search functions.
That is what I am doing.

Hi MDarling;
Noticed you were in the Catonsville / West Baltimore area. Which dealership did y'all go to? From that part of town you have fairly decent access to at least 3 different dealers. Call around at first - then you may want to start expanding your search area towards Annapolis and DC. If you are looking for exactly everything you have on your list it make take a while. But, if you prioritize and make one or two of the items a little flexible- that may make your search quicker.
Oh one last thing - hurry up and pick it up before August 4th. There is an MD GTG in the works.

Dealers have access to information on all the inventory available. They can find the one you want if it's anywhere. Maybe they don't want to tell you about any that are far away.

This reflects my experience. When I was shopping for an '07, one dealer in Colorado told me "nothing matches your specifications in the state of Colorado", a dealer in Texas told me "nothing matches my specifications in Texas", and another said "nothing in the entire United States matches my specifications"! Needless to say, I ended up pre-ordering an '08.

Thanks all for the advice! I must say that ya'll have provided me with quite a warm welcome. I think I'm just going to have to give in an order an '08. I don't think it'll be here by the Maryland GTG, but we'll see.

Take care!
