Default Ready to Purchase A3

Hi all, New to the forum and i am about to purchase 2006 A3. I love the body style and interior. Coming from Lexus family, i am not really familiar with German makings as far as reliability and maintance costs. I am a DIYer, but not no mechanic. Like doing oil changes, brakes, and etc.(just simple stuff). Before i made my mind on A3, i was considering 2005 MB C230 Kompressor, but service(maintances were kinda expensive, and had to take it to dealer to reset the service light(??)). with A3, can i do light maintances such as oil change, air/cabin filters, and reset the service lights myself? or do i have to take it to dealer for it? and how is reliability on a3s?
thanks,
T

See reply to this post for many answers to the same questions:

Service light resets, and MANY other functions can be accomplished with a VAG-COM interface and software from Ross-Tech:

Beware of cheap e-bay cables that claim to do the same thing.
