OK, this started over the weekend and is driving me nuts. Noises have started from the c-pillar areas that I'm pretty sure are the latches holding the rear seatbacks in place (b/c I fold down the seats and close them firmly and the noise goes away for awhile).

Has anyone tried lubing the mechanism (inside the seat)? And what type of lubrication is recommended? Or is there another solution? I don't want to gunk up the mechanism.

The stealership just wants me to "bring it in" and that's inconvenient.

 

Try adjusting the headrests first. It could be them and not the seats, it was on mine.

i've noticed that squeaking when i have oneseat folded down, but never when they are up. Maybe try some lube on one of the latches, i'd try a silicone based lube

 

Found some info on the VW forums about wrapping the bolt on which the latches lock with tape, so there's less play. Maybe I'll try that before making a mess on the inside of my seatbacks.

Local weather has quickly changed back and forth between near-freezing and summertime, so I'm pretty certain things will settle back into place when the weather is a little more consistent.

 

So wrapping the bolts with tape didn't work. Well it did for a bit, but releasing the seats again caused something in the mechanism to press thru the tape. I can't even find a way into the seatback to see what's up in there.

 

Hello , I have the same problem and it is the seat latch , whatI did to fix the problem after the dealer told me that they had to take everything apart , ( didn't like that idea at all ) was to buy some hockey tape and rap it around the latch on both sides and it's been noise free for over 3 months now , eventually the noise will come back but I still have plenty of tape left , hope that this might help.
