Looking to by a new A3 with Sports Package which comes with summer performance tires. Does this mean I need to change these during snowy season? or could I expect to drive through snow if I am careful enough?

If summer tires cost more, do you think the dealer will be glad to swap them out with all-seasons at no additional cost?

 

Summer tires' rubbers becomes like plastic when temp goes below 40 deg. So even without snow, they will have very low grip.

 

Be caeful what you ask for.

The standard equipment all-season tire on A3's is the Pirelli P6. That tire has generated more complaints for high noise, low life and low performance.

If it was me, I'd prefer summer performance tires, and with a second set of wheels (I use the relatively heavy OEM wheels for winter) with dedicated winter tires - love my Dunlop Wintersports.
