"Trunk" Lid Noise

"Trunk" Lid Noise
Hi,
I have a bloody annoying rattling noise coming from the boot area (inside) which occurs around the 3000rpm mark. The thing is, is that when I go out to do the shopping with her in doors the rattle does not occur, no doubt because the boot lid cover is full of shopping bags etc.
Has anyone else had this little pest of a problem or am I alone?
Cheers
Andy

RE: Boot Lid Noise
Andy, we will need a bit more information. What year and model. Is it a B5 or B6, Avant or sedan?
If you have a sedan the easiest thing would be to carefully drive in a parking lot with a friend (mate) in the rear with the back seats down, and have him try to locate the source by touching/pressing on areas until the noise stops. then check for loose fasteners or an area where you might be able to put some adhesive felt to stop rubbing.

RE: Boot Lid Noise
Sedan, late '01 1.8T (150bhp) with the sports package and full leather interior.
I will take her out later today and try and sort it out. It may well be that the emergency triangle holder is loose...if not then without any doubt it is the trunk lid because when the trunk is full of shopping etc the noise does not occur.
I just thought that maybe someone else has come across the same thing but maybe I'm a first...
Cheers,
Andy
