Hello all,

I just bought a new 2007 S4 Avant and I'm trying to install a K40 radar detector behind the grill. I've done this in loads of other cars and always figured it out, but in this car I am completely stumped as to how to get the full center grill off the front of the car. I can tell I can get the radarantenna in there - if I can only open it up. I've searched all around and can't find any help on this.

What I've done so far: removed the torx screw on the top, removed the license plate and the two screws behind it, removed the two screws that are about mid way up the grill under the slats on the left and right side, snapped of the center plastic strip between the upper and lower sections of the grill (and behind license plate). I've tried to tug/unsnap the full grill off from there without any luck and I don't want to pull any harder. Seems like there might still be some connectors I'm missing (or I just have to pull harder).

Anyone done this successfully or have suggestions?

from what I understand, you gotta remove the bumper homey...

 

Yeah the bumper skin has to come off, on the B7 its just a bumper cover, the beam doesn't come with it so it shouldn't be that hard.
Remove the wheels, take out the fender liners, and there should be three gold nuts on each side of the bumper holding it in place. Take those out and pull off the belly pan and you should be able to pull it forward.

 

Pulled the whole bumper off today and got the radar system installed. Not all that hard but sure took a long time.

I just removed my grill to take it to the body shop for some black paint.

Here is where all the screw locations are that hold the grill in place:



Blue torx screws are accessed from the front of the grill, green from the backside.

Did you remove the grill without taking the whole bumper off just by unscrewing the torx screws you highlighted?

You have to take the bumper cover off to remove the grill, but here are the torx screw and 10mm nut locations:



Not hard and doesn't take very long. ( Note that was my old led mod here is the new leds w/ painted grill: )

 

does anyone know if you have to remove the bumper to release the front grilles in the A4-B8 2009 as well?
