Default 1998 1.8T question

I have about 91000 miles on my 1.8t and all of a sudden today the "air bag" light came on. I live in las vegas, and it was extremely hot today. Does anybody know a remedy for this obnoxious problem?

Scan for codes with a VAGCOM (use the vagcom locator to find one) and clear it. If it recurs you may need to fix your airbags.

a friend, who has never had an audi, said to just pull the fuse and then after it resets to put it back in. is there even a fuse for that? Also he told me that the heat causes it to do this and that after it cools down significantly it will turn off... Please assist me, i have no idea what to do?

could be a bunch of different issues causing this to happen you will have to get it checked out forsure

but do not be afraid to drive the car and have the airbag blow up in your face with the airbag light it it disarms the system and will not blow

Could my chip affect this at all?

Should i take to a dealer or would a certified audi mechanic work?

I don't think the chip would affect it, a certified audi mechanic should be able to do the job

first of all this is a touchy situation.... it could be your just throwing a code... but if it isnt wouldnt you want to know that your airbags will deploy... my friend had the same problem it costed him over 800 to fix it at the dealer, because that is something the dealer has to fix not a normal mechanic... try this clear the code..if it comes back after you clear it, take it to get it fixed... it will cost you a nickle but then you have to ask yourself how important is your life
